Intense fresh cut white pear, complexed with cinnamon spice and floral notes dominate the aromatics, intermingling with a core of yellow stone fruit flavours. This off-dry wine has a finely textured palate, displaying underlying purity and power.
The 2017 Single Vineyard Seddon Pinot Gris initially offers fresh peach and spring blossom aromas, but as it warms up in the glass it then showcases baking spices such as clove and cinnamon. On the palate flavours of fresh pear drizzled with honey lead to a smooth luscious textural finish.
This single vineyard site is situated on the southern bank of the Awatere River in Marlborough, sheltered from the cooling southern weather patterns, resulting in a warm meso-climate. The loam soils have a distinctive soft clay "papa-rock" base allowing grapes to easily achieve physiological ripeness and fruit concentration in a cool climate region. The vineyard has several terraces gradually gaining in altitude away from the riverbank. The Pinot Gris vines planted at Seddon vineyard are between 11-16 years old.
