Rod McDonald's prowess with the Chardonnay grape needs no introduction and his latest effort from his much admired One Off small batch series is another ripper. This latest release steers away from the big, bold style of chardonnay and, with no oak treatment involved, the wine shows a more mineral, refined style, creating 'an uncensored expression of Hawke's Bay Chardonnay'.
Vinted from handpicked organic fruit, it was then fermented cold to allow true chardonnay characters to come through. Those classic Hawke's Bay stonefruit notes are there in force and lees ageing has created gorgeous palate weight and texture. A lovely line of acid flows throughout the palate. This is excellent chardonnay from the Te Awanga team; have a chilled glass on a summer afternoon and we bet you'll be nodding in agreement.
In true One Off style this is another Limited Edition release and when it's gone, it's gone. There'll never be another.
