A vibrant cool climate Pinot Noir Rose, pale pink in the glass with aromas of strawberry and melon on the Nose. The palate is lively with raspberry and stone fruit flavours, subtle creaminess and a long fresh finish. Excellent on its own or with seafood dishes like crayfish, prawns and Salmon.
Vineyard
The fruit for this Rose is sourced from our Home vineyard Matahiwi, by some of our favourite wine club members, and a neighbouring vineyard Waipipi. These vineyards are situated on a raised ridge of stony soil outside Masterton Wairarapa. The free draining soils and cool dry climate are ideal for ripening high quality Pinot Noir. In the vineyard we target certain blocks for Rose based on their ability to produce lifted fruit characters and retain fresh acidity. This wine is predominantly made from clone 10/5 and we leave a little bit more leaf on the fruit zone to save fine aromatics.
Winemaking
We harvested the fruit in a range of flavor spectrums to enhance the palette of vibrant fruit characters. The wine was pressed off soon after harvest to minimise extraction of colour and tannin and the juice immediately clarified. Fermentation occurred at low temperatures with a range selected yeast to capture vibrant aromatics. The component wines were blended early to maximize freshness and prepared for bottling.
