Winemakers Notes
Kumeu had a magnificent harvest in 2019 – the best in living memory. This allowed us to hand harvest our Malbec (about 6t) and Merlot (2.5t) in pristine condition on 14th March. Juice settling was followed by cool fermentation and an early bottling to retain all of this wine’s vibrancy and juicy intensity.
Tasting Notes
Colour; At bottling this wine was a delightful pale pink. At the edge it has a pale purple iridescence. This is from Malbec. We call it the ‘Malbec ring of confidence’.
Bouquet; Clean and fresh, dominated by summer red fruit aromas.
Palate; This wine is full-bodied for a Rosé. It has real richness and weight on the palate. It is soft and round and finishes with a sweet fruit lift.
Cellaring
As with all Rosés, this wine is delicious young, but we believe it has the structure to gain complexity while keeping its freshness over a period of 2 – 4 years.
Suggested Wine List Description
A full and fruity style wine. Sweet strawberry and wild berry fruit flavours add richness leading on to a crisp but full finish.
Independent Reviewer's Comment
“Full of drink-young charm, this West Auckland rosé is a 2:1 blend of malbec and merlot. Bright pink, with fresh, floral aromas, it is lively and medium-bodied, with strawberry and spice flavours, a hint of peaches, balanced acidity and a dry finish.” Michael Cooper
